The Vulcan Cup is the Southeast’s newest and biggest bouldering competition, hosted by High Point Climbing and Fitness in Birmingham, Alabama. Part of USA Climbing’s National Cup Series, the Vulcan Cup is stop number three of the four. Climbers of all ages, abilities, and skill levels are welcome to participate and compete for a podium position to win gear prizes from a ton of sponsors. Open athletes will all be vying for one of the top eight spots that will qualify them for Open finals, and a chance to win their share of the $10,000 cash purse!

How are the Citizen’s categories scored?
The total of each competitor’s top five boulders will determine their ranking and the highest total score wins. Competitors may climb one boulder above their registered category, after which point, the competitor will be bumped up to the next category. Ties will be broken by attempts.  The top three male and female competitors for each category will win killer gear prizes from our sponsors.

How is the Open category scored?
The qualifying round will be run in a standard redpoint format with the competitors’ top five boulders being totaled for an overall score. The top eight male and female competitors will advance to the finals round.The finals round will be run in a standard onsight format: four boulders, male/ female categories, five minutes on/ five minutes off. The scoring will be synonymous with all other National Cup Series events.

The $10,000 cash purse is paid out through the top eight male and female competitors in the following format:
1st: $1500
2nd: $1200
3rd: $800
4th: $500
5th: $400
6th: $300
7th: $200
8th: $100
