Kim Ja-in is making headlines in her home country of South Korea ahead of her attempt to scale the outside of the Lotte World Tower in Seoul on Sunday, May 20. Kim is a top contender on the IFSC World Cup circuit having found great success in hundreds of events over the course of the last decade, including multiple Asian Continental Championship victories and a gold medal at the 2014 World Championship for lead climbing. Kim is also an Olympic hopeful for the 2020 Games.

The Lotte World Tower is the sixth-highest man-made structure in the world, with 123 floors total. In 2013, Ja-in performed two similar stunts, climbing both the KNN Tower (128 meters) in Busan and the Lotte Department Store (84 meters) in Myeong-dong. Both towers pale in comparison to the 555-meter spire she plans to tackle this upcoming Sunday in South Korea's capital city.

When asked why Kim will be attempting the challenge, she replied, "I hope the challenge will give hope to our people going through hard times."
