Tuck Fest 2017 Deep Water Solo Competition Preview
Check out the official trailer for the 2017 Tuck Fest:
Qualifying will take place on Friday evening, followed by seeding rounds and finals on Saturday, which will be streamed LIVE only on FloClimbing. Climbers will have two attempts to qualify, with the top 16 male and female climbers moving on to the next round. In the finals, climbers will compete head-to-head based on their seeding. Winners will advance until a champion is crowned.
All of the action will be held on the brand new DWS wall, which cost more than $4 million and is the first permanent structure of its kind in the country.
The Deep Water Solo Competition has been a staple of the Tuck Fest for two out of the past three years. While a break from the action was needed in 2016 to complete the construction of the new wall, the first two years of the event were held on a temporary structure built over part of the natural pond surrounding the facility.
Check out the highlights from the 2015 DWS Comp:
After attracting a lot of attention from both the local climbing community and the Tuck Fest crowd, the facility knew it was time to go big. According to Adam Bratton, the Tuck Fest's marketing director, it was time to "put our money where our mouth is." They did just that with a gorgeous new wall and a $15K purse that has caught the attention of some of the nation's strongest climbers.
Here's some of the competitors set to throw down at the Tuck Fest this weekend:

The Deep Water Solo Competition is not the only major draw at the Tuck Fest this weekend. The festival also features a variety of outdoor sport competitions that include trail running, kayaking, biking, climbing, stand-up paddle boarding, and adventure racing. The name "Tuck Fest" comes from the Tuckaseegee Ford and Trail, a historical landmark located at the USNWC.
In its fourth year, Tuck Fest continues to not only grow but also remain rooted in the overall outdoor experience, giving guests of all ages and skill levels the chance to try something new. It's about being active by taking part in a competition or simply enjoying the music and atmosphere. Featuring over 20 competitions in and around the river as well as live bands and participation from leaders in the outdoor industry, the festival invites athletes, spectators, and musicians to celebrate the outdoor lifestyle.
