WATCH LIVE - December 17th starting at 5:00p EST with Young Guns followed by the Open Finals

Truly an elite event, the Dark Horse Bouldering Series has attracted the sport's top athletes--including former national champions Alex Puccio and Daniel Woods, as well as current national champions Megan Mascarenas and Nathaniel Coleman--to New England for the past seven years.

The series consists of three qualifying rounds at each of MetroRock's locations: Essex, Vermont; Newburyport, Massachusetts; and Everett, Massachusetts. Each stop's winners receive an automatic bye into the finals of the Championship Round at MetroRock's Everett location; all other competitors must compete to qualify for finals at the Championship Round, which gives those with the bye a distinct advantage.

Here's this season's first-round winner, teenage climbing prodigy Kai Lightner, on the importance of obtaining that bye:

This season is gearing up to be the largest yet with bigger cash purses, guest professional setters and the addition of the Championship Round to the third stop on the USAC Bouldering National Cup Series.

"We're excited to partner with FloSports to get the excitement of Dark Horse events out into the climbing community right as the action is happening," said Pat Enright, co-owner of the MetroRock Climbing Centers. "Some of the world's greatest climbers compete for the title of the Dark Horse. Combining this with the expert route setting that goes into preparing for each competition, we know that the FloClimbing live broadcasts will be exciting to climbers of all abilities and fans."
