Well, he did it again! At 35 years old, Chris Sharma nabbed the second ascent of Joe Mama 9a+/5.15a in Oliana, Spain, this week. Sharma was forced to step away from this route, and neighboring project Le Blond, during the hot summer months.

During his Spanish hiatus, Sharma kept himself busy by ticking off a first ascent of deep water solo route Alasha in Mallorca, Spain, which is rumored to be the hardest DWS route in the world. Sharma refused to grade the route due to the major differences between climbing over water and regular sport climbing but hinted that it may come in somewhere around 9b/5.15b.

Coming back from his summertime success in paradise apparently had a rejuvenating effect on Sharma, who did not wait long to take down the Klemen Becan power endurance route.

This recent surge in hard ascents is not surprising as Sharma spent much of last summer in the gym training hard while performing daddy duties at home. Recently on Instagram he said, "Maybe it was in my head or maybe it was all the training with Patxi Usobiaga last summer, but I finally felt the flow!"

Suggesting that the new blend of climbing and a systematic training regimen might be the "missing link," there are sure to be more hard sends in Sharma's near future.
